The Impoverished Ministry of Jesus

Where then do You get that living water? —John 4:11

"The well is deep"— and even a great deal deeper than the Samaritan woman knew! ( John 4:11 ). Think of the depths of human nature and human life; think of the depth of the "wells" in you. Have you been limiting, or impoverishing, the ministry of Jesus to the point that He is unable to work in your life? Suppose that you have a deep "well" of hurt and trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and says to you, "Let not your heart be troubled . . ." (John 14:1 ). Would your response be to shrug your shoulders and say, "But, Lord, the well is too deep, and even You can’t draw up quietness and comfort out of it." Actually, that is correct. Jesus doesn’t bring anything up from the wells of human nature— He brings them down from above. We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering only what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and also by saying, "Of course, I cannot expect God to do this particular thing." The thing that approaches the very limits of His power is the very thing we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We impoverish and weaken His ministry in us the moment we forget He is almighty. The impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus for Him to be our comforter or our sympathizer, but we refrain from approaching Him as our Almighty God.
The reason some of us are such poor examples of Christianity is that we have failed to recognize that Christ is almighty. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment or surrender to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying, "Of course, He can’t do anything about this." We struggle to reach the bottom of our own well, trying to get water for ourselves. Beware of sitting back, and saying, "It can’t be done." You will know it can be done if you will look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness runs deep, but make the effort to look away from yourself and to look toward Him.

Our Misgivings About Jesus

The woman said to Him, ’Sir, You have nothing to draw [water] with, and the well is deep’ —John 4:11

Have you ever said to yourself, "I am impressed with the wonderful truths of God’s Word, but He can’t really expect me to live up to that and work all those details into my life!" When it comes to confronting Jesus Christ on the basis of His qualities and abilities, our attitudes reflect religious superiority. We think His ideals are lofty and they impress us, but we believe He is not in touch with reality— that what He says cannot actually be done. Each of us thinks this about Jesus in one area of our life or another. These doubts or misgivings about Jesus begin as we consider questions that divert our focus away from God. While we talk of our dealings with Him, others ask us, "Where are you going to get enough money to live? How will you live and who will take care of you?" Or our misgivings begin within ourselves when we tell Jesus that our circumstances are just a little too difficult for Him. We say, "It’s easy to say, ’Trust in the Lord,’ but a person has to live; and besides, Jesus has nothing with which to draw water— no means to be able to give us these things." And beware of exhibiting religious deceit by saying, "Oh, I have no misgivings about Jesus, only misgivings about myself." If we are honest, we will admit that we never have misgivings or doubts about ourselves, because we know exactly what we are capable or incapable of doing. But we do have misgivings about Jesus. And our pride is hurt even at the thought that He can do what we can’t.
My misgivings arise from the fact that I search within to find how He will do what He says. My doubts spring from the depths of my own inferiority. If I detect these misgivings in myself, I should bring them into the light and confess them openly— "Lord, I have had misgivings about You. I have not believed in Your abilities, but only my own. And I have not believed in Your almighty power apart from my finite understanding of it."

The Destitution of Service

. . though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved —2 Corinthians 12:15

Natural human love expects something in return. But Paul is saying, "It doesn’t really matter to me whether you love me or not. I am willing to be completely destitute anyway; willing to be poverty-stricken, not just for your sakes, but also that I may be able to get you to God." "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor . . ." ( 2 Corinthians 8:9 ). And Paul’s idea of service was the same as our Lord’s. He did not care how high the cost was to himself— he would gladly pay it. It was a joyful thing to Paul.
The institutional church’s idea of a servant of God is not at all like Jesus Christ’s idea. His idea is that we serve Him by being the servants of others. Jesus Christ actually "out-socialized" the socialists. He said that in His kingdom the greatest one would be the servant of all (see Matthew 23:11 ). The real test of a saint is not one’s willingness to preach the gospel, but one’s willingness to do something like washing the disciples’ feet— that is, being willing to do those things that seem unimportant in human estimation but count as everything to God. It was Paul’s delight to spend his life for God’s interests in other people, and he did not care what it cost. But before we will serve, we stop to ponder our personal and financial concerns— "What if God wants me to go over there? And what about my salary? What is the climate like there? Who will take care of me? A person must consider all these things." All that is an indication that we have reservations about serving God. But the apostle Paul had no conditions or reservations. Paul focused his life on Jesus Christ’s idea of a New Testament saint; that is, not one who merely proclaims the gospel, but one who becomes broken bread and poured-out wine in the hands of Jesus Christ for the sake of others.

The Delight of Sacrifice

I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls . . . —2 Corinthians 12:15

Once "the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit," we deliberately begin to identify ourselves with Jesus Christ’s interests and purposes in others’ lives (Romans 5:5 ). And Jesus has an interest in every individual person. We have no right in Christian service to be guided by our own interests and desires. In fact, this is one of the greatest tests of our relationship with Jesus Christ. The delight of sacrifice is that I lay down my life for my Friend, Jesus (see John 15:13 ). I don’t throw my life away, but I willingly and deliberately lay it down for Him and His interests in other people. And I do this for no cause or purpose of my own. Paul spent his life for only one purpose— that he might win people to Jesus Christ. Paul always attracted people to his Lord, but never to himself. He said, "I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some" ( 1 Corinthians 9:22 ).

When someone thinks that to develop a holy life he must always be alone with God, he is no longer of any use to others. This is like putting himself on a pedestal and isolating himself from the rest of society. Paul was a holy person, but wherever he went Jesus Christ was always allowed to help Himself to his life. Many of us are interested only in our own goals, and Jesus cannot help Himself to our lives. But if we are totally surrendered to Him, we have no goals of our own to serve. Paul said that he knew how to be a "doormat" without resenting it, because the motivation of his life was devotion to Jesus. We tend to be devoted, not to Jesus Christ, but to the things which allow us more spiritual freedom than total surrender to Him would allow. Freedom was not Paul’s motive at all. In fact, he stated, "I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren . . ." ( Romans 9:3 ). Had Paul lost his ability to reason? Not at all! For someone who is in love, this is not an overstatement. And Paul was in love with Jesus Christ.

The Determination to Serve

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” (Matthew 20:28).

Jesus also said, “Yet I am among you as the One who serves” (Luke 22:27). Paul’s idea of service was the same as our Lord’s – “ . . . ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5). We somehow have the idea that a person called to the ministry is called to be different and above other people. But according to Jesus Christ, he is called to be a “doormat” for others – called to be their spiritual leader, but never their superior. Paul said, “I know how to be abased . . .” (Philippians 4:12). Paul’s idea of service was to pour his life out to the last drop for others. And whether he received praise or blame made no difference. As long as there was one human being who did not know Jesus, Paul felt a debt of service to that person until he did come to know Him. But the chief motivation behind Paul’s service was not love for others but love for his Lord. If our devotion is to the cause of humanity, we will be quickly defeated and brokenhearted, since we will be confronted with a great deal of ingratitude from other people. But if we are motivated by our love for God, no amount of ingratitude will be able to hinder us from serving one another.

Paul’s understanding of how Christ had dealt with him is the secret behind his determination to serve others. “I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man . . .” (1 Timothy 1:13). In other words, no matter how badly others may have treated Paul, they could never have treated him with the same degree of spite and hatred with which he had treated Jesus Christ. Once we realize that Jesus has served us even to the depths of our meagerness, our selfishness, and our sin, nothing we encounter from others will be able to exhaust our determination to serve others for His sake.

dan_o_mace: 1Co 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
dan_o_mace: 1Co 2:15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

Thoughts For Young & Old, Male & Female by J. C. Ryle (circa 1860)

For a careful, prayerful read:

(1) For one thing, resolve at once, by God's help, to break off every known
sin, however small.

Look within, each one of you. Examine your own hearts. Do you see there any
habit or custom which you know is wrong in the sight of God? If you do, don't
delay for a moment in attacking it. Resolve at once to lay it aside. Nothing,
darkens the eyes of the mind so much, and deadens the conscience so surely, as
an allowed sin. It may be a little one, but it is not any less dangerous. A
small leak will sink a great ship, and a small spark will kindle a great fire,
and a little allowed sin in like manner will ruin an immortal soul. Take my
advice, and never spare a little sin. Israel was commanded to kill every
Canaanite, both great and small. Act on the same principle, and show no mercy
to little sins. Well says the book of the Song of Songs, "Catch for us the
foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards" (Song of Songs 2:15).

You can be sure that no wicked man ever meant to be so wicked at his first
beginnings. But he began with allowing himself some little sins, and that led
on to something greater, and that in time produced something greater still,
and thus he became the miserable being that he now is. When Hazael heard from
Elisha of the horrible acts that he would one day do, he said with
astonishment, "How could your servant, a mere dog, accomplish such a feat?" (2
Kings 8:13). But he allowed sin to take root in his heart, and in the end he
did them all.

Resist sin in its beginnings. They may look small and insignificant, but mind
what I say, resist them, make no compromise, let no sin lodge quietly and
undisturbed in your heart. There is nothing finer than the point of a needle,
but when it has made a hole, it draws all the thread after it. Remember the
Apostle's words, "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough" (1
Corinthians 5:6).

Many a person could tell you with sorrow and shame, that he traces the ruin of
all his worldly prospects to the point I speak of--to giving way to sin in its
beginnings. He began habits of deception and dishonesty in little things, and
they grew on him. Step by step, he has gone on from bad to worse, till he has
done things that at one time he would have thought impossible till at last he
has lost his standing, lost his character, lost his peace, and almost lost his
soul. He allowed a gap in the wall of his conscience, because it seemed a
little one, and once allowed, that gap grew larger every day, till in time the
whole wall seemed to come down.

Remember this especially in matters of truth and honesty. Be careful in even
the least syllable spoken. "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also
be trusted with much" (Luke 16:10). Whatever the world may like to think,
there are no little sins. All great buildings are made up of little parts--the
first stone is as important as any other. All habits are formed by a
succession of little acts, and the first little act is of mighty consequence.
The axe in the fable only begged the trees to let him have one little piece of
wood to make a handle, and he would never trouble them any more. He got it,
and then he soon cut them all down. The devil only wants to get the wedge of a
little allowed sin into your heart, and you will soon be all his own. It is a
wise saying, "There is nothing small between us and God, for God is an
infinite God."

There are two ways of coming down from the top of a ladder; one is to jump
down, and the other is to come down by the steps: but both will lead you to
the bottom. So also there are two ways of going to hell; one is to walk into
it with your eyes open--few people do that; the other is to go down by the
steps of little sins--and that way, I fear, is only too common. Put up with a
few little sins, and you will soon want a few more. Even a heathen could say,
"Who was ever content with only one sin?" If you put up with little sins then
your path in life will be worse and worse every year. Jeremy Taylor very
clearly described the progress of sin in a man:

First it startles him, then it becomes pleasing, then easy, then delightful,
then frequent, then habitual, then a way of life! Then the man feels no guilt,
then obstinate, then resolves never to repent, and then he is damned.

If you don't want to come to this, remember the rule I give you this
day--resolve at once to break off every known sin.

(2) Resolve, by God's help, to shun everything which may prove an occasion of sin.

It is an excellent saying, "He that would be safe from the acts of evil, must
widely avoid the occasions." There is an old fable, that the butterfly once
asked the owl how she should deal with the fire, which had singed her wings;
and the owl counseled her, in reply, not to even look at its smoke. It is not
enough that we determine not to commit sin, we must carefully keep at a
distance from all approaches to it. By this test we ought to examine the ways
we spend our time--the books that we read, the friends that we visit, the part
of society which we interact with. We must not be content with saying, "There
is nothing wrong here;" we must go further, and say, "Is there anything here
which may cause me to sin?"

This is one great reason why idleness is to be avoided. It is not that doing
nothing is of itself so wicked; it is the opportunity it affords to evil and
empty thoughts; it is the wide door it opens for Satan to throw in the seeds
of bad things; it is this which is mainly to be feared. If David had not given
opportunity to the devil, by walking on his house-top in Jerusalem with
nothing to do, he probably never would have seen Bathsheba bathing, nor
murdered her husband Uriah.

This, too, is one good reason why worldly entertainments are so objectionable.
It may be difficult, in some instances, to show that they are, in themselves,
positively unscriptural and wrong. But there is little difficulty in showing
that the tendency of almost all of them is most injurious to the soul. They
sow the seeds of an earthly and sensual frame of mind. They war against the
life of faith. They promote an unhealthy and unnatural craving after
excitement. They minister to the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eye,
and the pride of life. They dim the view of heaven and eternity, and give a
false color to the things of time. They take away time for private prayer, and
Scripture reading, and calm communion with God. The man who mingles in them is
like one who gives Satan an advantage. He has a battle to fight, and he gives
his enemy the help of sun, and wind, and hill. It would indeed be strange if
he did not find himself continually overcome.

Endeavor, as much as you can, to keep clear of everything which may prove
injurious to your soul. People may say you are too conscientious, too
particular, and ask where is the great harm of such and such things? But don't
listen to them. It is dangerous to play tricks with sharp tools: it is far
more dangerous to take liberties with your immortal soul. He that would be
safe must not come near the brink of danger. He must look on his heart as a
barrel of gunpowder, and be cautious not to handle one spark of temptation
more than he can help.

What is the use of your praying, "Lord keep me from temptation," unless you
are careful not to run into it and "keep me from evil," unless you show a
desire to keep out of its way? Take an example from Joseph--Not merely did he
refuse solicitation to sin from his master's wife, but he showed his prudence
in refusing to even be "with her" (Genesis 39:10). Take to heart the advice of
Solomon, not only to "Not set foot on the path of the wicked," but to "Avoid
it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go your way" (Proverbs 4:15); "Do
not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes
down smoothly!" (Proverbs 23:31). The man who took the vow of a Nazarite in
Israel, not only took no wine, but be even abstained from grapes in any shape
whatever. "Hate what is evil," says Paul to the Romans (Romans 12:9); not
merely not to do it; "Flee the evil desires of youth," he writes to Timothy;
get away from them as far as possible (2 Timothy 2:22). Oh, how needful are
such cautions! Dinah just had to go out among the wicked Shechemites, to see
their ways, and she lost her virginity. Lot just had pitched his tent near
sinful Sodom, and he lost everything but his life.

Be wise with your time. Do not always be trying to see how near you can allow
the enemy of souls to come, and yet escape him. Hold him at arm's length. Try
to keep clear of temptation as far as possible, and this will be one great
help to keep clear of sin.

(3) Resolve never to forget the eye of God.

The eye of God! Think of that. Everywhere, in every house, in every field, in
every room, in every company, alone or in a crowd, the eye of God is always on
you. "The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the
good" (Proverbs 15:3), and they are eyes that read hearts as well as actions.

Endeavor, I beg you, to realize this fact. Remember that you have to deal with
an all-seeing God, a God who never sleeps, a God who understands your
thoughts, and with whom the night shines as the day. You may leave your
father's house, and go away, like the prodigal, into a far country, and think
that there is nobody to watch your conduct; but the eye and ear of God are
there before you. You may deceive your parents or employers, you may tell them
lies, and act one way before their faces, and another behind their backs, but
you cannot deceive God. He knows you through and through. He heard what you
said as you came here today. He knows what you are thinking of at this minute.
He has set your most secret sins in the light of His countenance, and they
will one day come out before the world to your shame, except you take heed.

How little is this really felt! How many things are done continually, which
men would never do if they thought they were seen! How many matters are
transacted in the rooms of imagination, which would never bear the light of
day! Yes; men entertain thoughts in private, and say words in private, and do
acts in private, which they would be ashamed and blush to have exposed before
the world. The sound of a footstep coming has stopped many a deed of
wickedness. A knock at the door has caused many an evil work to be hastily
suspended, and hurriedly laid aside. But oh, what miserable folly is all this!
There is an all-seeing Witness with us wherever we go. Lock the door, pull
down the blind, turn out the light; it doesn't matter, it makes no difference;
God is everywhere, you cannot shut Him out, or prevent His seeing. "Nothing in
all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare
before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (Hebrews 4:13). Young
Joseph understood this well when his employer's wife tempted him. There was no
one in the house to see them, no human eye to witness against him; but Joseph
was one who lived as seeing Him that is invisible: "How could I do such a
wicked thing and sin against God?" (Genesis 39:9)

I ask all of you to read Psalm 139. I advise all of you to learn it by heart.
Make it the test of all your dealings in this world's business: say to
yourself often, "Do I remember that God sees me?"

Live as in the sight of God. This is what Abraham did, he walked before Him.
This is what Enoch did, he walked with Him. This is what heaven itself will
be, the eternal presence of God. Do nothing that you would not like God to
see. Say nothing, you would not like God to hear. Write nothing, you would not
like God to read. Go no place where you would not like God to find you. Read
no book of which you would not like God to say, "Show it to Me." Never spend
your time in such a way that you would not like to have God say, "What are you
doing?"

Bible Study Notes Feb. 17, 2008

SeattlePaulK777: PSALM 103
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
SeattlePaulK777: Exo 12:20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
SeattlePaulK777: Isa 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 3:23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
SeattlePaulK777: Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 4:4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
SeattlePaulK777: amen
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
SeattlePaulK777: Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:3 Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:4 Have we not power to eat and to drink?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Pe 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
SeattlePaulK777: 1Co 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

TAKE IT BY FORCE - JESUS OF THE BIBLE (My notes taken of Steve Lumbley’s bible study lesson of 2/1/08)

Mat. 11:1 – 3
John knew who Jesus was but he questioned him.
4, 5
Jesus is quoting the Prophet Isaiah. Tell John what you see.
v. 6 – Blessed is he who is not offended by me….

They thought Jesus was going to set up an earthly kingdom. If you’re the Messiah when are you going to kick Herod out of here. Why am I in prison.

Is. 8:14 – Another prophecy of Messiah. He will be as a sanctuary (holy abode) and stone of stumbling and rock of offense….
This was part of the prophecy also.

Are you offended at Jesus? Does the Jesus of the bible offend you? John may have been a little offended because Jesus was supposed to set up an earthly kingdom, so he was offended that Jesus was going to fulfill these scriptures.

The church today is offended at the Jesus of the bible. They worship a Jesus but it’s not the Jesus of the bible. He’s a stumbling stone to people who claim to be Christians today.
Dominionists - They want earthly power here and now. Prosperty bunch don’t want to hear about forsaking all.

Do you want him to establish an earthly kingdom through you with your earthly talent?
Jesus said you have to lay down everything. Unless he forsake all that he has he cannot be my disciple. Do you want an earthly kingdom that allows us to heap up riches here and now?

Blessed is he that is not offended by me. John was in prison. Jesus was out doing the work for which his Father sent him. You have to serve him for who he is.
Mat. 11:7 parallel Luke 7 – lived delicately in king’s clothes.
Is that what John was?
v.12 – if you were drowning you would fight with all that is in you to survive.
Amplified Bible: Matthew 11:12 – And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize – a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].
Jesus is saying that those who take the kingdom need to be like that when it comes to apprehending and walking in the kingdom of God. The violent take it by force (harpazo) used in 1 Thes. 4:17 – that’s the rapture word. Caught up together in the clouds. Snatch up, to take, to grab up. Mat. 13:19 – parable of the sower – the enemy comes and catches away. Jn. 6:15 take him by force and make him king. Acts. 8:39 Philip was caught up by the Lord.

Getting your prayers answered. Be persistent. Take hold in the spirit with everything that you have. Get a word from the Lord on how you’re supposed to pray. You have to be unwilling to let go of it.

Mat. 20:29 – Walking where God’s will rules and reigns. Well meaning people are going to try to stop you. That’s taking hold of the kingdom with violence.
Mat. 15:21 – She persisted. She had great faith.
More examples in Mark 9:14 –
Luke 11:5 – Persistence.

Acts 4:13 – The kingdom was suffering violence and they took hold of the kingdom by force. They refused to turn loose the kingdom of God. They were persistent and God answered their prayer.

Lumster: Psalm 25
SeattlePaulK777: i'll try to post
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
SeattlePaulK777: Isa 8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
SeattlePaulK777: Isa 8:15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment?
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
SeattlePaulK777: 1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
SeattlePaulK777: Joh 6:15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 20:34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
SeattlePaulK777: Luk 11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
SeattlePaulK777: Act 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
SeattlePaulK777: Mat 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
SeattlePaulK777: Mar 4:17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
