Loved Unto the End

For the Lord will not cast off for ever. (Lamentations 3:31)

He may cast away for a season but not forever. A woman may leave off her ornaments for a few days, but she will not forget them or throw them upon the dunghill. It is not like the Lord to cast off those whom He loves, for "having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end." Some talk of our being in grace and out of it, as if we were like rabbits that run in and out of their burrows; but, indeed, it is not so. The Lord's love is a far more serious and abiding matter than this.

He chose us from eternity, and He will love us throughout eternity. He loved us so as to die for us, and we may therefore be sure that His love will never die. His honor is so wrapped up in the salvation of the believer that He can no more cast him off than He can cast off His own robes of office as King of glory. No, no! The Lord Jesus, as a Head, never casts off His members; as a Husband, He never casts off His bride. Did you think you were cast off? Why did you think so evil of the Lord who has betrothed you to Himself? Cast off such thoughts, and never let them lodge in your soul again. "The Lord hath not cast away his people which he foreknew" (Romans 11:2). "He hateth putting away" (Malachi 2:16).

C. H. Spurgeon

The Lord brought something to my mind yesterday morning and then He prompted me to come
to this blog to write it down not knowing what the subject might be. At the time, this was the first blog on the page (I tried to post it yesterday, but I had trouble and ran out of time.) I think it ties in well with the topic.

To preface this, until now I have never had a revelation for or against OSAS. But today
God reminded me that we are His bride and as we are waiting for Jesus to come, we are to continually be preparing ourselves, keeping ourselves from sin.

Eph 5:27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

It occurred to me that our waiting to be joined together with Jesus is our engagement to be married the same way Mary was engaged/betrothed to Joseph. It was as if they were married in that they were committed to each other, but they hadn't come together physically yet. During this time, Joseph could put her away if she was unfaithful.

This is the stage we are at. If we turn away and are unfaithful to the Lord, then He can put us away (if we harden our heart and refuse to repent). Of course He would hate to put
us away and yes, His love is eternal, but He can't have fellowship with the wicked.

I believe the twist that Spurgeon has is reformed theology/Calvinism that says if you are
chosen from the beginning, God will save you regardless of what you do.

But Gods word says:
Rev 3:5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

It is true that God is faithful; the question is whether we are faithful to Him.

Grace Abounding in a Believer’s Life – Charles Spurgeon – Compiled and Edited by Robert Hal
Doctrines of Grace Do Not Lead to Sin – Chapter 8
For sin shall not have dominion over you: For ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid- Romans 6:14-15
The substance and the essence of the true gospel are the doctrine of God’s grace. If you take away the grace of God from the gospel, you have extracted from it its very lifeblood, and there is nothing left worth preaching, worth believing, worth contending for. Grace is the soul and the music of the gospel; without it, the gospel is silent.
The doctrine of grace teaches that God deals with sinful men upon the footing of pure mercy. Finding men guilty, out of free favor he has provided in the death of His dear Son an atonement that free pardons men, altogether irrespective of past character or of any good works that may be foreseen. He accepts all those who place their trust in His atonement, selecting faith as the way of salvation, that it may be all of grace. In this God acts from a motive found with Himself. This grace of God flows towards the sinner from the old and begins its operations upon him when there is nothing good in him, working in him that which is good and acceptable and continuing so to work in him until the deed of grace is complete when the believer is received up into the glory for which he is made. Grace commences to save and perseveres till all is done. Everything in salvation is of grace, and grace alone. All is free favor, nothing of merit. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God.”
Bottom line: One is saved by grace and grace alone.
I believe our robes are kept white by the work of grace in our lives. When we are covered with grace and are lying down our lives daily and following the Lord Jesus, He and He alone will keep us from sinning. Otherwise we would be powerless to save ourselves.
Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.
